Start with a small, useful collection
Begin with a few sample files before moving important documents. Choose material you need to carry, such as a travel confirmation or a household record, and decide where the original should remain. A private space is easier to maintain when each file has a clear purpose.
Veil is still a development preview. The workflow below describes the implemented app, not a currently available App Store download or a certification for regulated document storage.
Import and verify each document
Inside a space, open the add menu and browse files. Choose the documents and review the import result. Importing creates copies; it does not remove the source from Files, email attachments or another provider.
Open each imported document. For a PDF, check several pages, small text and page order. Do not infer that an entire document is readable from its thumbnail. Lock the space, unlock it and check again before relying on the copy.
Use names you can search
Choose a simple convention such as Travel — booking — 2026-10.pdf. Avoid putting account numbers or other unnecessary sensitive details in filenames, especially for files you may later export. Keep the extension appropriate to the file type.
Create a few folders by purpose and move related files into them. Use favorites for frequently needed items. Search in the current space looks at filenames; it is not a promise of OCR or full-text search inside every PDF. Clear folder and type filters when a file seems missing.
Plan for storage and file limits
The current app accepts individual files up to 100 MB. The free plan does not cap the number of documents or notes, but device capacity and per-file limits still apply. Unlimited document count does not mean unlimited cloud storage.
Leave room for imports, previews and backup operations. If an import fails, keep the source, read the reported problem and retry the failed item after resolving it. Keep important originals until you have checked the imported copies and a restorable backup.
Keep recovery separate from everyday access
Export an encrypted backup after important additions and keep its matching recovery code separately. Practice restoring sample data before depending on a backup for irreplaceable files. A filename that says backup does not prove that the archive can be restored.
A lost device can take its local files with it. Decide where to keep the backup, how to locate the recovery code and when to update the archive. The preview does not make a promise of a live, managed online backup service.
Export only what the recipient needs
Use a readable export when someone needs the actual document; use an encrypted backup for recovery. These are different outputs. A readable export is no longer protected by the space lock.
Check the destination and selected files before sending. Copies saved to Files, email or a recipient’s device are independent of Veil. Removing an item from the space does not recall those copies. Review old versions periodically and keep any original you still need.
