What can travel with a photo?
Apple notes that sharing a photo can also share details such as its location, capture time, device and captions. Review the sharing options before sending an original.
There are two checks to make: information stored inside the file and information visible in the picture. A street sign, shipping label or reflection can reveal something even when the file has no GPS tag.
Create a copy in your browser
Open the Veil photo tool and choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP. Image processing happens in the browser; this tool does not upload the selected file. You do not need the iOS app or an account.
Choose the output size, create the private copy, and wait for the verified PNG result before downloading. The tool redraws the image and checks the output chunks, refusing a download if it finds an unexpected chunk. It does not edit your original.
Know the limits before converting
The tool accepts files up to 20 MB and images up to 30 megapixels. HEIC, video and Live Photo motion are not supported. Use a compatible still-image copy if necessary and keep your original elsewhere.
The output is a new PNG, not a byte-identical archive. File size, color rendering and format can change; reducing the output dimensions also discards detail. Review the saved result at the size you intend to use.
Inspect the actual download
Open veil-private-copy.png and check orientation, text legibility and the edges of the picture. Look for names, addresses, badges, screens and reflections. Crop or redact those in an editor if needed, then check the final exported file again.
The verified result concerns the generated file. Another editor or service may add its own metadata later. Send the checked copy rather than selecting the original again from your photo library.
Metadata removal is not encryption
The downloaded PNG is an ordinary readable image. Anyone who receives it can view or copy it. The tool does not hide faces, blur text or restrict recipients.
An encrypted vault serves a different purpose: keeping stored files behind an unlock step. Exporting a readable copy takes it outside that protection. Keep the original, sharing copy and encrypted backup clearly separated.
A quick final check
Before sending, confirm the filename, open the downloaded copy, inspect visible details and check the intended recipient. If you change the output size, generate a fresh copy. Reset the tool when finished; reset does not delete downloads you already saved.
